The Name
Among Syria's 3000 historical sites, there is a place like no other in fame and
mystery that is Maaloula. Maaloula is remarkable for its historical churches,
high wall of mountain hill, famous caves, pleasant whether, and most
importantly the fact that its inhabitants still hold on what remains of Jesus
spoken language, Aramic.

بلدة تخبو بين هضاب جبال لبنان الشرقية, بارتفاع الف
وستمائة متر عن سطح البحر. بلدة تعبر عما  بسوريا من
غموض وسحر, تلك البلدة تدعى معلولا
Caves & Churches
Maaloula is well known for its Language: which
is Aramaic; according to encyclopedia Britannica
(15th edition, 1990), Aramaic language was the
lingua franca of the near east in the 500 B.C. The
Babylonian and Jerusalem talmuds as well as
portions of the old tastements book of Daniel
and book of Ezra were written in Aramaic. it had
its greatest influence in the middle east from 300
B.C. till 650 A.D. Now only 15000 people
knows the language among them is the 10000
Christians villagers of Maaloula north of
Damascus.
